SECRET PLACE CAFE & CAMPING, KUDAT, TIP OF BORNEO

We make a short trip for 2 days 1 night camping in Kudat for the Music and Surf Festival 2017 held at the tip of Borneo from the 24th till 26th November 2017. From Kota Kinabalu, it will take about 3 hours drive for 180 km to reach the camping site, which is just around 10 minute drive from the festival ground. We reach there around 6pm on the Saturday evening. We choose to set our camp at the Secret Place Cafe & Camping , a private beach run by the local. The campsite are very basic, equipped with one toilet, 2 shower, and one cafe. We set our camp and head to the festival ground for the night concert. The festival were held at the Kalampunian beach, most of the participants set their camp along the beach in Kalampunian. It started to rain heavily during the concert, though it doesn't stop us all from having fun. I remember standing under the rain, all wet and cold, dancing and singing along, it was a very unforgettable experience. We head back to our cam...

KIONSOM WATERFALL, INANAM

Not too far from Kota Kinabalu city, is the Kionsom Waterfall located in Inanam town. You can catch a bus from Kota Kinabalu to Inanam town, and from Inanam town you can ask around how to get to the waterfall. Brilliant Day   LauraMZira  Reviewed 5 September 2016 We got a bus from KK to Inanam, (number 4A) from outside the Shangri La Hotel for RM 1.50. The bus was awesome, with music and brilliant vibes. From Inanam we got a minivan to the waterfall itself for RM 4 per person. To enter the waterfall was RM 1.50 and was very worthwhile, we swam in many pools and explored the several waterfalls, the water was chilled and refreshing and there were quite afew local people about. Some of us even jumped into the pools along with some local boys. The experience was really authentic because it seemed like a very local picnic destination. We got caught in some rain but because we were already swimming it didn't matter and there was a small alcove to keep bags...

NORTH BORNEO RAILWAY

If you're in Kota Kinabalu on Sunday and you have no idea what to do, why don't you hop on the train going to Beaufort? Why Sunday? Because from monday to saturday, they use the newest train with aircond, due to the high amount of passengers commuting back and forth from works. So on sunday, but not on every sunday, on some lucky sunday, you will get to ride the old North Borneo train with open air window. Yayy ! No, I'm not talking about the expensive  North Borneo Railway  (I can't afford that). I'm talking about the old train, the cheapest one to sit on. Every sunday, the train will depart from Tanjung Aru station at 7.45 am. A return ticket from Tanjung Aru to Beaufort cost RM7.20 and takes about 2 hours. The best place to sit on the train? On the right side! On the left side is mostly jungle all the way, on the right side you will pass by the busy roadside, kampung (village) view, paddy fields, temple, school, the sea and...

MATAKING ISLAND REEF DIVE RESORT

Entrance to Mataking Island Reef Dive Resort Mataking is one of the islands located in Semporna. I have been lucky enough to get the opportunity to visit the island twice, first time on November 2015 for 3 days 2 nights, and we make another visit on 26th July 2017 for another 3 days 2 nights trip. If you book a package with the resort, their service will include return land and boat transfer. From Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA), the flight to Tawau will take approximately 50 minutes. The best seat on the plane? Of course on the left side, because the plane will fly by Mount Kinabalu and you can see how majestic and beautiful it is. For Mataking Resort, there are 3 boat transfer daily, the last one will be around 4.30 pm in the evening. There is no boat transfer later than that due to the ESSCOM dust-to-dawn curfew in order to curb cross-border kidnapping and other crimes. If you reach Tawau Airport before or by 2 pm, you can still catch the last boat transfe...
