SECRET PLACE CAFE & CAMPING, KUDAT, TIP OF BORNEO

We make a short trip for 2 days 1 night camping in Kudat for the Music and Surf Festival 2017 held at the tip of Borneo from the 24th till 26th November 2017.

From Kota Kinabalu, it will take about 3 hours drive for 180 km to reach the camping site, which is just around 10 minute drive from the festival ground.

We reach there around 6pm on the Saturday evening. We choose to set our camp at the Secret Place Cafe & Camping, a private beach run by the local. The campsite are very basic, equipped with one toilet, 2 shower, and one cafe.

We set our camp and head to the festival ground for the night concert. The festival were held at the Kalampunian beach, most of the participants set their camp along the beach in Kalampunian.

It started to rain heavily during the concert, though it doesn't stop us all from having fun.

I remember standing under the rain, all wet and cold, dancing and singing along, it was a very unforgettable experience.

We head back to our campsite at around 10pm, take a shower and spend the rest of the night talking with my friend. We went to sleep at around 1 am, only to wake up 2 hours later.

The night sky were magnificent. There's stars everywhere. On a clear night, you can even see the milky way along the sky. Its a perfect place for stargazing.

We spend the rest of the night waiting for dawn, and I spend another hour staring at the beach in the morning. I barely get any sleep, before we pack our tent and leave.

We went back to the festival ground in the morning, get a breakfast at Tommy's place, a chalet facing the beach at the tip of Borneo. Around noon, we went to Kudat town for lunch and take a walk around the fresh market.

Kuih muih. A local snacks.

Ikan bilis. Perfect for Nasi lemak.

Seahorse. According to the local, they believe that the seahorse are somehow capable of healing some health issue. It is used as traditional medicine by few ethnics in Sabah.

A food for the starving cat.

The fishermans of Kudat. The fish are catched and sold fresh at the market daily.

We leave Kudat around 3 pm and stopped by a few stalls along the road. You can find local goods and products sold along the road such as baskets, honey, corns, vegetables and other handmade products.

Jagung bakar. A must eat food when you pass by Kota Marudu and Kudat. They're harvested fresh and baked on the spot. Eat them while they're hot, you can taste the sweetness of the smoky corns in every bites.

Ready to be eaten.

A wide range of fresh local foods ready to be picked.

Some local keep honey bees at their backyard and harvest their honey once in a while.

Tarap, terap, or marang, a rare Borneo fruit. It taste a little milky, strong smells, not my favorite though. They're expensive, and only available during certain time of the year.
