The last day of 2017 are well spent by going to a 3 days 2 night camping trip to Polumpung Melangkap View Campsite from 30th December 2017 to 1st January 2018.
The campsite were located in Melangkap, Kota Belud, though is it nearer to reach there via Jalan Ranau from Kota Kinabalu. Situated 76km away from the heart of Kota Kinabalu, it takes about 1 hours 31 minutes to reach the campsite.
Upon reaching the place, you will need to register with the operator. After a short briefing, you are free to choose your own camping site within their perimeter. The best location is of course by the river side, facing the mighty Mount Kinabalu. The operator do provide tents, canopy, kitchen, cooking set, and other camping essential for rent in case you forget to bring your own.
After registration, we proceed to our campsite and started setting up our tents. The ground are rocky, so make sure to have good layers beneath your teneath for a good night sleep. We choose to set our tent at the very end of the campsite, isolated from the crowd. Since we reach the campsite at 6pm, after setting up the tents, we proceed to preparing dinner and bbq. The campsite only have one ropuhan (kitchen) available for rent, so it is advisable to bring your own cooking set or rent theirs.
Around 11pm, it started to rain non stop until early morning. Do make sure that your tent are waterproof or you'll be sleeping in a wet ground with water dripping on your face. ( Been there, done that.)
Sunrise is suppose to be at 7 am, but since it has been raining all night, we couldn't see the sunrise. Though the weather are quite good, we can see the clear mountain in the morning around 9 am.
At 2 pm, I decided that I wanted to drink coca cola, so I walk to the nearest store, which is around 1km or more, up the hill and across the field. Its a beautiful place, I don't regret walking all the way there. My only regret is that I didn't bring along my camera.
It rains a bit around 4pm, but the rest of the night has been beautiful and bright.
I was planning to wake up at 3 am to take pictures of the clear sky, but I was too cozy sleeping, I didn't realize at all that I switched off my alarm. I didn't wake up until 5 am. After setting up my camera for a while, trying to find the right setting and everything, I managed to take a bit of pictures before the dawn and the dark sky turns blue.
The first day of 2018 is a beautiful hopeful beginning. I didn't make any new year resolution this year though, only a wish upon a star.
I take a quick dip at 10am before we pack our bag and leave the campsite. The water are freezing cold, you can feel it through your bones. Don't get fooled by the cold air and cool weather especially when you're in the high mountain area, just 2 days under the is enough to give me sunburn and they really burns! Even a sunny day at the beach doesn't hurt that much.
We left around 12.30pm, and somehow I managed to get lost during driving and end up at the Jalan Ranau instead of the first road we take there, which is via Kota Belud. However, it was a very enjoyable and scenic drive, and we stopped by along the road to buy Sinalau bakas (smoked boar). Sinalau bakas is a must eat food if you ever come to Sabah.
I didn't take much pictures at the campsite, but you can check out their official facebook page and instagram for more information. Link as below;
