Train To Tenom

Tenom is a small town located in the interior division of Sabah, popular for its coffee and Padas white water rafting. Situated 140 km from Kota Kinabalu, it takes 2 and a half hour of driving via Kimanis route, and almost a whole day to reach there via train. I finally had the opportunity to ride on the Sabah train going to Tenom and stay in the small quiet town of Tenom for 3 days. The adventure starts from Tanjung Aru railway station, where we arrived there around 7.15 am and bought our one way ticket to Beaufort. It cost RM4.80 per person for adult, and half price for children. The journey take around 2 hours with multiple stops along the way. The train departed Tanjung Aru railway station at 7.45am reached Beaufort at 9.55am. The train are spacious, comfortable and well equipped with aircond, compared to the other train which are older and less comfortable. From a traveller's perspective however, I preffered the older train, You can read my entry about the old train going

DANUM VALLEY FIELD CENTRE

There are two rainforest that I really wanted to go in Sabah. Danum Valley and Maliau Basin.  Thanks God I have a friend who had been doing research in Danum Valley for quite some times, that finally one day she offers to bring me there. Yayyy! Dream comes true! So finally on January last year, I packed my bag and brace myself to face the tiger leech of Borneo. Little that I know, that other than tiger leech, there's more creatures waiting for me there.  I take a flight from Kota Kinabalu to Lahad Datu, which take less than an hour with return flight ticket costing me roughly RM200. You can opt for bus going to Lahad Datu, but it may takes more than 8 hours of travelling, which during certain period, the bus fare cost the same as taking a flight there. I arrived in Lahad Datu airport shortly before noon on a sunny friday, take a walk to the Danum Valley Field Centre (DVFC) office which is only around 10 minutes walk. After meeting up with the rest of t

MABUL ISLAND

Mabul is an island nearby to Sipadan island. A few years before, there were few resorts in Sipadan, but the government close down all the resorts in Sipadan, thus most of the operator build their new resorts in Mabul island. It take about 45 minutes boat ride to get to Sipadan from Mabul island. Currently, there is only army base and Sabah Park office in Sipadan. To enter Sipadan, you will need a permit. There is only 120 permits issued daily, which are divided among few resorts and operators.  Turtle of Sipadan The first time I went to Mabul is on November 2015. We were staying in Borneo Divers Mabul Resort for 4 days 3 night, with one day Sipadan permit. Shamefully I have to admit, I was never a diver, and I am even terrified to snorkel, all I do in Sipadan is drink coffee all day. Though they're very lucky to dive with the blue whale who decided to join the party during their second dive. Sadly, we didn't get that on camera, the divemaster only realized that I
